IronCAD DCS 2015 Product #1 Update Release

The IronCAD Design Collaboration Suite (DCS) 2015 Product Update #1 boasts a 10X speed improvement in the import of Native Files by directly importing the graphical model representations. Software products from Dassault, Siemens and Solidworks can store lightweight graphical representation of models, which IronCAD DCS can directly access. Once imported into an IronCAD's scene, users can select parts or assemblies from the imported data to reconstruct into a solid model to allow modification. This ability improves design workflow and cuts down on memory and storage requirements when using customer data in the design process. Additionally, users can use the imported graphical representation in an IronCAD 2D drawing for layout and communication purposes. Further import improvements include support for JT and SolidEdge formats in the Native Translator Add-on.

The IronCAD DCS update seeks to improve 3D communication with improved capabilities in 3D Annotations (PMI). The latest improvements include support for tolerances, intersection points and provides new grouping abilities to control what information is displayed in a particular viewing orientation.

IronCAD customers will benefit from many update improvements, which include

  • Support for structural steel member creation with multiple body trimming and butt connections
  • Improved editing of sheet metal parts with new reference edge association that makes it easy to modify parts with automatically bend updates
  • Enhanced KeyShot integration supports textures passed from IronCAD to speed up visualization setup

Cary O'Connor, Vice President of Marketing at IronCAD, stated, "This update offers significant customer-driven quality improvements but more importantly, it delivers real tools that enhance customer satisfaction and productivity."

IRONCAD COMPOSE Mobile For IPad Released

IRONCAD COMPOSE Mobile is more than just a free viewer, it is a valuable tool for communicating 3D design concepts directly on a mobile device anywhere at any time. The download is free to everyone for the initial release; from designers wishing to share their designs to a sales person presenting and configuring their company's products at the point of sale.

Everyone in a team can leverage existing design data from any CAD system by reading it into the IronCAD Design Collaboration Suite (DCS) Desktop products and publishing securely to the COMPOSE Mobile device as files or catalogs components. From there, interrogate the geometry, add commentary, configure new assemblies, and share the designs back to IronCAD DCS users for further collaboration in real-time which can dramatically reduce time-to-market.

Making use of IronCAD's patented Smart Assembly capabilities, design intelligence can be added to components to enable automatic positioning and alignment on the iPad during Drag & Drop from catalogs. Once placed, position of the components can be adjusted to offer additional flexibility and customization to offer new design alternatives.

Point of sale users for example can configure new custom products or make adjustments to products or assemblies at the customer site to precisely meet a specific design need. They can even share the design back to IronCAD DCS along with annotation comments. IronCAD DCS users can then automatically convert the design information into precise engineering design data allowing additional modifications based on the customers feedback. Throughout the product lifecycle, designers can continue to optimize their digital models while simultaneously sharing their work with customers or sales teams using Mobile Compose. This ability dramatically improves communication between a supplier and customer and ensures that the right product is delivered in the shortest possible time. Sales cycles can be dramatically reduced with an increase of success rates.

Mobile Compose can be used to provide estimates or quotations since users have access to information such as part weight or pricing that can all be stored with the components. And if users need link with corporate ERP or other software applications, IronCAD can customize Mobile Compose specifically to meet unique needs or requirements.

Cary O'Connor, Vice President of Marketing at IronCAD, stated, "Our customers will enjoy the flexibility of accessing their models and catalog content anywhere. Furthermore, with COMPOSE on their mobile device, anyone can communicate and configure directly with their customers using an application that is simple to use even for non-designers!"

IronCAD Thread Tool support.

As part of creating a actual physical thread for a screw, you are required to draw the cross-section of the thread profile. So not sure how many users know off the top of their heads the dimensions for each thread size. In case you're like me and do not, I have a found a great website that has a calculator to help you with just that. Enjoy
